Nitinol is an alloy between Nickel and Titanium. It is composed of about 50% of each. In 1959, Dr. William J. Buehler discovered it by researching cones for the Polaris Missile. It is 10X more elastic than most other metals and has many applications in our world including eyeglasses, braces, cardiology, rovers on mars, etc. If you heat it using a lighter, stovetop, or hot glass of water it will return back to its original shape due to the atoms changing phases.
