MSE Technical Electives

Students are required to complete four 5000 level or above courses for the technical elective requirement. Please select two courses from Section 1, one course from Section 2, and one course from Section 3. All courses must be passes with a “C” grade or better.

Select two (2) MSE courses from the approved list below.

Note: MSE 5050 courses are special topics and will vary each semester. Students may take multiple sections of MSE 5050 to fulfill the tech elective requirement, so long as the same topic is not repeated.

*Students are only allowed to take ONE technical elective that is 2.0 credit hour. Students cannot take multiple 2.0 credit hour courses and use them towards a technical elective requirement. Students should plan accordingly when picking Section 1, 2, and 3 technical elective classes. Select one (1) course from a variety of options, which can include the approved courses from Nuclear Engineering (NUCL), Mechanical Engineering (ME EN), or Metallurgical Engineering (MET E) listed below. MSE courses listed in Section 1 can also be used to fulfill this requirement. Students may also consider 5000-level (3 credits) courses offered in other Engineering or Science departments related to the study of Materials Science and Engineering. All course not listed below, must be approved before registration by the MSE Academic Advisor to count towards a Section 3 technical elective.
